Half Way Home

00000 April 15thHere I am half way through my April Blog-A-Thon. For those of you just joining for the first time, thanks for coming. I have been in a self imposed challenge to post one blog everyday for the month of April. And this being April 15th is my 15th blog, which puts me half way to the finish line. Thank God I already finished my taxes two weeks ago. I am beginning to understand what a marathon runner must feel in exhausting mile 13. While there is very little physical effort in writing everyday for 30 days, there is certainly a high amount of mental strain and necessary discipline to be successful. My feet are not running a marathon but my neurons are. Mental fatigue is certainly gaining traction and the need for synaptic Gatorade is setting in.

I am still also feeling the effects of writing everyday with very little proof that anybody is reading my posts. Sure there have been a few likes and followers here in there and I thank those who have done so. I still, however, feel trapped in the Pump Up the Volume movie. Its just too bad there is no Eat Me Beat Me Lady to make things just a tad more interesting. If you haven’t seen the movie, just pretend you didn’t read those last two lines despite how absurd they may seem. Or better yet, watch the movie and come back to the post to laugh along with us.

If I was smart, I would have mapped out exactly what I was going to write about everyday for 30 days prior to starting this challenge. That, however, is just too much planner for a procrastinator like me. Although I think my posts are better because they are more stream of consciousness writing rather than bland preplanned blubber. Yes I did just figure out a way to include the word “blubber” in my blog post even if it doesn’t fit there very well. What can I say, no glove ever fits perfectly. I always used to kind of dislike those YouTube videos where they encourage you to comment below but I am beginning to understand their constant directional verbiage. They are just trying to make sure they are not talking to the air. At this point, I have done enough pleading. Even if nobody comments, follows, or listens anymore I will at least be a better writer at the end of these 30 days.

So do I sound too much like James Altucher? If so, I take that as a compliment. And with that, I am half way there. Feet, uh I mean, mind don’t fail me now.

Lower Your Expectations

Call me crazy but I don’t believe in etiquette. To me, it really just feels like an excuse to blame others for not conforming to society’s pressure to do what’s expected. Who created these expectations? Even I tend to bow down to the pressures of conformity but at least I am trying to break through these restraints.

I am calling for a everyone to lower the expectations of others and increase the expectations of themselves. We spend way too much time focusing on what others are doing rather than focusing on what we are doing. We lose sight of the big picture and focus on the worthless grains of sand. Call me cruel, but adherence to etiquette should be a nice to have rather than a must have. Through the veil of my eyes there are few “musts” in life. Musts include breathing if you want to stay alive. Dying at some point after you are born. Everything else is just the filling you choose in a must bread sandwich. The world would be a better place if we all focused on being the best “I” we can be and stop worrying about the best “you” everyone else should be.

Wow, this blog post is getting way too deep for comfort. Maybe its just my seasonal April depression coming on. Luckily my fingers have fight and my brain has pills. I say yum to the synaptic sweethearts. The more I write the more I feel like Happy Harry Hard On in the movie “Pump Up the Volume.” Continuing to type when nobody is listening and continuing to think I am alone while a listener base is brewing. I gotta say, I am beginning to love the stench of my coffee breath fan base. Keep quietly paying attention and fight the urge to swallow an etiquette breath mint.

Is Blogging Once a Day for a Month Possible?

I have been watching many YouTube channels recently to see what is popular. Based on my research I have determined that the two keys to channel popularity are…

1. Voyeuristic tendencies such as public pranks and using strange tactics to interact with strangers

or

2. The ability to just plain upload video blogs on a regular basis.

I know it sounds strange but you can be pretty boring on YouTube, just like this blog post, and still massively increase your viewership (in this case readership) just by posting regularly and at a high frequency. At this point I am too new to the YouTube creation world to start there, but I thought I might try blogging once a day, every day, for a month. While this is my first back to back post (yes I posted yesterday), I am not quite ready to take the plunge. So I am gearing up with this post and will hopefully blog once a day for a month starting April 1st. And no this is not an early April Fool’s joke.

I hope to blog again soon this month but stay tuned next month for a blog post everyday. The thought is already beginning to frighten me although I don’t know why. Yes I feel like Christian Slater in Pump Up the Volume who is talking on the radio and thinks that nobody is listening. Are you listening?? Are you out there?? If so, feel free to comment.

Thanks, Goodnight…. stop reading and go to bed already!
